I am a Building Biologist. I work with families and communities to create indoor living and work environments that are supportive of great health. My aim is to provide tailored guidance, support, and inspiration to help you make the necessary changes that will support and nurture a happy, healthy lifestyle for you and your loved ones.
Hi, I'm Tatiana
I’m a qualified Building Biologist, having completed my Advanced Diploma in Building Biology with the Australian College of Environmental Studies (ACES), and a qualified Interior Designer and Design Psychology Coach. I’ve also studied Feng Shui, Geomancy, Colour Therapy, and Creating Sacred Space - so I guess you could say I’ve got a bit of a passion for the spaces we live in.
My interest in environmental health first started when I completed a Healthy Home subject as part of my Feng Shui studies. At the time I was a practicing interior designer, so you can imagine my shock and dismay when I first learned that some of the very materials I was recommending to my clients were associated with asthma, allergies, reproductive effects, and even cancer.
I was determined to learn more, so I dived headfirst into the study of Building Biology.
The evidence was overwhelming.
I started to find out how chemicals, most of which we bring into our homes every day in the form of building materials, furniture, packaging, and cleaning products haven’t actually been proven
safe for human use or consumption, and our exposure to which has been associated with a myriad of adverse health effects including reproductive harm, endocrine disruption, and impaired neurodevelopment in children.
I was shocked to find out that the very device that was glued to my hand and my head for hours each day could possibly give me brain cancer, or that the mould in my home could be compromising my body’s ability to get rid of toxins - I’d felt the very effects in rental homes I’d previously lived in.
The dots started to connect, and everything started making sense.
But in day-to-day life it was hard talking to friends and family about why I started asking them to take their shoes before entering my home, why they couldn’t reach me because I put my phone on ‘flight’ mode, or why I didn’t want to buy that plastic outdoor furniture set with polyester seat cushions.
I felt so passionate about sharing what I learned, yet I still wanted to keep my friends and family and not scare them away with ‘everything has hormone-disrupting chemicals in it’ and ‘if you carry your phone in your pocket, you’ll become sterile’.
This is why I AM HOME was born.
Its purpose is two-fold. I want to inspire you and share what I’ve learned (and am still learning) in the field of environmental health so that you feel empowered and enabled to make healthier and safer choices for you and your family.
I also want to support you on this journey, and help you make long-lasting - but manageable and sustainable - changes, even if they’re tiny.
This usually takes time. Hence my motto: a healthier home, one step at a time.
So do what you can. Make one change at a time.
And celebrate every single change you make.
After all, even if we can’t yet influence the industry (and this is a big yet), we can control what we bring into our homes and the living habits that we adopt.
Make a change today!
So if you’re looking to make a change in your life, get in touch with me.
I’ll help you identify and assess potential health hazards and disharmonies in your home or work environment using a combination of traditional methods and modern scientific techniques. Once we’ve identified these pollutants and their sources, I’ll then offer practical solutions to help you create a healthier day-to-day living space for you and your family.
