Cleaning and Personal Care Products Assessment
Your Health Begins at Home!
US EPA estimates that the average person receives over 70% of their chemical exposure at home, which means the very place most people consider safest paradoxically exposes them to the greatest amounts of potentially hazardous pollutants (US EPA & ORIA 2016).
Many conventional cleaning and personal care products that we use on daily basis contain hundreds of chemicals that are known carcinogens, neurotoxins, allergens and endocrine disruptors, which have been linked to a whole host of diseases, including obesity, diabetes, allergies, neurodegenerative diseases, respiratory disorders, asthma, autism, learning disabilities and behavioural problems, infertility and miscarriage, thyroid issues, autoimmune conditions, leukaemia, and a long list of cancers. And the vast majority of these chemicals have never been tested and/or proven to be safe for human use or consumption!
A recent study found that using household cleaners as little as once a week for 20 years may speed decline in lung function as much as smoking one pack of cigarettes each day for 10 to 20 years.
Although much remains to be understood about environmental links to adverse health impacts, in the meantime, it is better to be safe than sorry. A lot can be done to reduce or prevent these harmful exposures, especially on our homes. Cleaning and Personal Care Products Assessment can to help you do just that.
