Healthy Home Healthy Child
Children are not little Adults!
Babies and children are especially vulnerable to health problems from exposures to hundreds of toxic substances such as air pollutants, pesticides, flame retardants, phthalates, heavy metals and other environmental hazards found in a home since they have frequent hand-to-mouth activity; they eat, drink and breathe more per body weight compared to adults; and they are undergoing many rapid changes that are susceptible to even minute doses of environmental stressors.
Foetal and infant exposures are also of concern since many chemicals have been shown to pass through the placenta and/or can be passed from mother to infant through breast milk.
These exposures arising from use of toxic cleaning and personal care products, modern building materials and finishes as well as electro-pollution from wireless technologies in early life can influence health and disease not only in infancy and childhood but also into adult life.
Today, autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders are on the rise, child obesity has reached epidemic levels, and impacts from climate changes and severe weather are cause for serious concern. Although much remains to be understood about environmental links to adverse health impacts in children, in the meantime, it is better to be safe than sorry. A lot can be done to reduce or prevent these harmful exposures. Prevention is The Best Strategy!
Healthy Home Healthy Child can to help you do just that. This audit focuses on identifying environmental stressors present in your child's immediate environment which can adversely affect his or her health, and then providing realistic solutions on how to reduce or eliminate sources of these pollutants in order to create a safer and healthier environment for your child.
